DEEPAL Marks One Year in Egypt With S09 Flagship Launch at the Grand Egyptian Museum
Changan's new-energy brand chose one of Cairo's most striking venues to launch its six-seat range-extender SUV.
DEEPAL, the new-energy vehicle brand of China’s Changan Automobile, celebrated its first anniversary in Egypt by launching its flagship S09 SUV at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The event, themed “The Meeting of Civilizations”, linked the heritage of Egypt and China with modern automotive engineering.
Senior Changan executives, including Group Chairman Zhu Huarong, attended alongside GB Auto CEO Karim Gaddas and COO Saad Habib. GB Auto is DEEPAL’s exclusive partner in Egypt.
The S09
The DEEPAL S09 is a large six-seat SUV aimed at families, combining full-stack intelligent driving features with the brand’s “super range-extender” technology. Regional pricing was announced at the ceremony.
A fast first year
- DEEPAL entered Egypt in August 2025 and passed 1,000 sales within a few months
- The brand reports that it leads Egypt’s range-extended EV segment
- Changan sells the CHANGAN, DEEPAL and AVATR brands in Egypt, with two models produced locally
- The CS55 PLUS became Changan’s first locally assembled (CKD) model in Egypt in 2025
Changan’s regional footprint
Changan entered the Middle East and Africa in 1994 and says it has surpassed 500,000 cumulative sales in the region. Its “In Egypt, for Egypt” message, repeated by its chairman at the launch, signals a long-term commitment to local production and after-sales networks in one of the region’s most populous markets.
