Power and efficiency
The RAV4 makes 230 hp (FWD) or 239 hp (AWD), compared with 204 hp for the CR-V. Toyota also leads on official efficiency, quoting up to 26.6 km/l against the Honda’s 16-17 km/l.
Warranty and safety
Toyota covers the hybrid battery for up to 10 years or 250,000 km, against Honda’s 8 years or 160,000 km. However, Honda Sensing driver assistance is standard on every CR-V, whereas Toyota Safety Sense is only fitted from the RAV4 XLE upwards.
Our take
The RAV4 Hybrid wins on entry price, power, efficiency and battery warranty. The CR-V counters with standard safety tech across the range and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want the safety suite on the Toyota, budget for at least the XLE, which brings the two cars much closer on price. Note that some higher RAV4 trims may involve waits of three to six months.
